Experts Group
National Identity Cards are available to British Citizens who live or work in Greater Manchester and the North West; to young people aged 16-24 who live or work in London; to British Citizens or EEA nationals who are eligible for an airside pass at Manchester and London City airports; to Home Office staff and Passport Office suppliers; and to anyone that has expressed an early interest or registers their interest by 30 June 2010, via the Directgov website.
The needs for assurance, oversight and scrutiny of the National Identity Service (NIS) have changed.
A new regulatory framework has seen the appointment of the first Identity Commissioner Sir Joseph Piling who has statutory duties for the NIS and reports at least annually to the Home Secretary and to Parliament. Visit the Identity Commissioner's website here.
The Public Panels provide an opportunity for IPS to have a conversation with the public and listen to the concerns and views of people in relation to identity cards and passports.
The Experts Group provides an independent perspective to inform the development of the NIS and to support the Public Panels.
